Hollerich
The former industrial district turning into Luxembourg's creative and startup quarter — warehouse offices, ethnic restaurants, cheaper hotels. Hollerich sits southwest of Gare, along the route d’Esch and rue de Hollerich, historically a light-industrial and railway district. In the last decade it's been slowly gentrifying: former warehouses converted into offices, a couple of coworking spaces, decent Ethiopian and Turkish restaurants along route d’Esch, and a small cluster of design agencies around rue de l’Aciérie. The Luxembourg City Film Festival often uses venues here in March. It's a good budget base with a slightly grittier feel than the Gare quarter itself. You’re 10-15 minutes on foot from Gare Centrale, 20 minutes from Ville Haute, and hotel prices are consistently 15-25% below the center. The Bouneweger Stuff area on the Bonnevoie border has some of the best value dinners in the city. Skip if you want tourist infrastructure — Hollerich is where Luxembourgers live and work, not where they take visitors.
