What to expect at Beaufort Castle
Beaufort is unusual: two castles stand a hundred metres apart. The medieval fortress, begun around 1100 on a sandstone outcrop, grew through six centuries into the imposing ruin you climb today, complete with a torture chamber and dungeon. Right beside it, Baron Johann von Beck built a Renaissance manor in 1649 that is still furnished as a lived-in country house — kitchen copper, hunting trophies, a 17th-century chapel and the original still where the family's cassero liqueur is produced.
The combined ticket covers both. Start at the medieval castle (self-guided, roughly 45 minutes with the pond loop) then join a scheduled Renaissance castle tour — only three per day, so plan around them. Beaufort is the western gateway to the Mullerthal Trail, so pair the visit with the short walk down to the Hallerbach cascades or the longer Route 2 loop through the sandstone canyons. Tastings of the house cassero are offered at tour's end for $4.

Bus 414 from Echternach stops at "Beaufort, Aal Buerg" 3 minutes from the gate. From Luxembourg City change at Echternach (about 90 minutes total, all free).
