Cents

The residential plateau east of the city — Kalchesbrück industrial edge, Neudorf border, and easy tram to Kirchberg. Cents is a mostly-residential district on the plateau east of the Alzette valley, above Clausen and Neudorf. Historically a village that got absorbed into the city, it still has a distinct feel around its old core near rue Léon Kauffman and the small Cents church. Most of the district is 1960s-90s housing, tidy but architecturally forgettable. The east edge slopes down toward the Sandweiler border and the Kalchesbrück industrial zone. For visitors, Cents is really only relevant if you have specific business at the airport (10 minutes by bus) or in Kirchberg (5 minutes by tram after the extension). Hotel options are scarce and modest. It suits a very specific traveler: someone with a rental car, an early flight, or a business meeting on the east side of the city who wants to avoid old-town prices. Everyone else should stay closer to Ville Haute or Kirchberg.

Questions, answered

Why would I stay in Cents over the airport?

If you want a real neighborhood dinner and a lower price than the Findel airport hotels. Cents has decent budget options with free parking and a 10-minute bus to the terminal. Airport hotels are pricier and characterless.

Can I walk from Cents to the old town?

Not sensibly — it's 40+ minutes with a valley descent and climb. Take the tram from Cents-Hamm. If you insist on walking, the route down through Clausen is scenic but requires reasonable fitness for the return.
