What to expect at Wenzel Wall Circular Walk

The Wenzel Walk is a 5.2 km waymarked circular trail that stitches together the three defensive rings of Luxembourg's UNESCO fortress: the medieval Wenzel Wall built by John of Bohemia's son, the Spanish-Austrian outer bastions, and the industrial-era Prussian works. It starts and ends at the Bock, drops down the Rham plateau, crosses the Alzette at Stierchen bridge, climbs through Clausen, follows the Corniche and returns via the Pfaffenthal panoramic lift. Twenty-two numbered interpretation panels tell the story as you walk.

It is entirely free to do self-guided — download the PDF from luxembourg-city.com or grab the paper leaflet at the tourist office on Place Guillaume II. Guided tours in English leave from the same office on Saturday afternoons in season for $12. The full loop takes 2-3 hours with photos; wear proper shoes because there are steep sandstone steps and cobbles throughout. Do it clockwise for the best sequence of reveals — the Grund viewpoint comes at the perfect mid-point.
