The route

Train free to Wasserbillig (40 minutes), then rent a bike ($20/day) or take bus 130 down the Route du Vin through Wormeldange, Ehnen, Grevenmacher and Remich. Start at Caves Bernard-Massard in Grevenmacher — tour + tasting $18, opens 9:30am. It's Luxembourg's biggest sparkling wine house and gives you a solid crash course.

The good stops

Domaine Vinsmoselle in Wormeldange for cooperative wines and cheap tastings ($10). Caves Krier Frères in Remich for family-run traditional method sparkling. Lunch at Restaurant Pavillon Saint-Martin in Remich, on the river — the fish menu runs $28-$35. Luxembourg specialises in Riesling, Pinot Gris and crémant (sparkling); reds are rare and mostly mediocre. End the day back at Remich station and train home in 50 minutes.
