Larochette Castle — Fels in Luxembourgish — sits on a red sandstone outcrop 150 metres above the town of the same name at the entrance to the Mullerthal. First documented in 1129, it was unusual in being a Ganerbenburg: a shared castle where up to five noble families each held their own manor house within the same walls. Two of these, the Créhange and Hombourg houses, are partly restored; the rest survive as evocative roofless shells you can wander freely.
It's the quietest of Luxembourg's major castles and rarely busy even on summer Sundays. Access is a steep 10-minute climb from the town square via a signposted footpath. The ticket includes a small brochure but no audio guide — the ruined character is the point. Combine with the Mullerthal Trail Route 2, which passes directly below, or with a coffee on Place Bleech in the old town. Bring water; there's no café on the rock itself.

60-90 minutes on the castle rock. Add 20 minutes for the walk up and down from the town square.
When is Larochette closed?+
Fully closed December to March. In November only open on weekends, 11:00-16:00.

Free bus 100 from Luxembourg-Gare to Larochette, Um Knapp (45 min), then a 10-minute climb up the marked path from Place Bleech.
