Where to stay in Grund

The valley village underneath the old town has maybe 4 places to actually sleep, and one of them is a hostel.

The reality of Grund lodging

Grund looks like the fairytale postcard of Luxembourg and people constantly ask where to book here. The honest answer is: options are extremely limited. The Youth Hostel on Rue du Fort Olisy is the main address, with dorm beds around $30 and private rooms near $80. A handful of short-term rentals sit along Rue Munster and Rue Saint-Ulric, typically $130-180 a night. That is essentially the inventory.

If you want a hotel with reception, breakfast and lift access, Grund cannot deliver. Ville Haute or Clausen are better bases, and both are a 10-minute walk or one Pfaffenthal lift ride away.

Who should still try

Grund suits couples on a second visit who want atmosphere over convenience, and hikers using the Wenzel or Alzette valley trails straight from the door. The riverside setting, the Neumunster Abbey courtyard and Scott's Pub within stumbling distance are the sell.

It does not suit anyone with mobility issues or heavy luggage. The only ways in are the free Pfaffenthal panoramic lift, a steep road, or long stone staircases. Nobody arrives in Grund without effort.

Good to know

How do I get luggage down to Grund?+

Take the free Pfaffenthal lift from Place du Saint-Esprit; it opens directly onto the valley floor and takes suitcases. Avoid the Chemin de la Corniche staircase route with bags.

Is Grund safe at night?+

Yes. It gets pub traffic around Neumunster and Scott's until about 1am on weekends but is otherwise very quiet and well-lit along the river path.
