Bonnevoie sits directly east of Central Station, historically the working-class quarter and today one of the most mixed neighbourhoods in the city. Since the tram extension to Bonnevoie/Lycee Bouneweg and further to Stadion opened in 2024, it became a viable tourist base for the first time. Rooms here run $90-140, comparable to Gare but in a calmer setting.
Options are limited: a handful of small hotels around Rue de Bonnevoie and the Kockelscheuer road, plus growing short-term rental stock. Hotel-quality is closer to Gare-standard than Ville Haute.
Who it suits
Bonnevoie suits repeat visitors, longer stays, and travellers who want to eat where locals eat. Portuguese, Cape Verdean and Italian restaurants line Rue de Bonnevoie at prices 30-40% below the centre. The Sunday morning market at Place Leon XIII is genuinely local.
It does not suit first-timers on a short trip. You are not walking to Ville Haute for a coffee; it is a 25-minute uphill hike or a tram ride. Skip it if you wanted charm at the door, and skip the blocks nearest the station tracks for noise.
