Weather turning
March is the pivot month. Early March feels like winter — 6 to 9 degrees, wind up on the plateau, occasional wet snow. By the last week, temperatures hit 12 or 13 and the Pétrusse valley below Ville Haute fills with daffodils and cherry blossom. Rainfall is high (around 65 mm across the month) so a proper jacket matters more than layers. Daylight jumps dramatically: sunset moves from 18:15 at the start of the month to 19:45 by month's end after clocks change on the last Sunday.
What reopens and what it costs
Vianden Castle switches to summer hours (10:00-18:00) on 1 April, but the chairlift still waits until Easter weekend. The Moselle wine cellars in Remich and Grevenmacher begin reopening for tastings from mid-month. Mondorf-les-Bains stays busy. Hotel rates remain in low-season territory until Easter — Sofitel Kirchberg around $160, mid-range near the Gare around 95, guesthouses in Echternach under 80. If Easter falls in early April as it does in 2026, all of March keeps low rates.

Is March too early for the Moselle wine route?+
For scenery, yes — vines are still bare sticks. For tastings, no. Cellars in Remich, Wormeldange and Grevenmacher reopen from mid-March with the new vintage. Bernard-Massard offers guided visits from 15 March.
Will I catch the daffodils in the Pétrusse valley?+
Peak is usually 20 March to 5 April. Walk the path from Place de la Constitution down toward the viaduct — the slopes below the ramparts turn solid yellow.
